Maybach 57S Coupe arrives

October 4, 2010 By Cars UK

The Maybach 57S Coupe

The Maybach 57S Coupe by Xenatec

The production version of the Maybach 57S Coupe – penned by Exelero designer Fredrik Burchhardt and made by Xenatec – has been revealed

Regular readers will know that we gave due warning back in March that Maybach was going to be allowed to wither on the vine rather than get new models, apart from a run-out Maybach Coupe based on the Maybach 57S and ‘produced’ by German firm Xenatec.

Mercedes refuted our story about the Maybach badge being allowed to die again soon after the story ran (although there were rumblings at Paris last week that Mercedes has lost patience with Maybach. We’ll see), but what we did get was an official announcement that there will indeed be 100 Maybach 57S Coupes built by Xantech and that they will costs a rather large €675,000. Before you start adding wish-list options.

Now we get the reveal of the production Maybach Coupe which – although it’s not a patch on the Maybach Exelero – doesn’t look as bad as we expected. Mind you, I’m not sure it could look as bad as we expected. What is a bit surprising is that the Maybach Coupe was designed by Fredrik Burchhardt. The same guy who penned the Exelero.

Xenatec have taken a standard Maybach 57S (that’s the ‘Short’ version), given it new bumpers and side panels and chucked out the four doors and replaced them with two big ones. In the process they took the tin snips to the roof and chopped it down, fitting more steeply-raked glass front and back in the process.

Inside buyers will be able to opt for just about any combination of goodies for an interior which will be the love-child of a glitterball and a Playstation. However, when it comes to the oily bits there is no choice. The only option is the 600bhp twin-turbo V12 from the regular 57S.

Or you could buy his ‘n’ hers Phantom Coupe’s for the same money.
