Jaguar C-X75 - going in to production
Jaguar are to build the Jaguar C-X75 supercar with 500bhp electric motors and a 500bhp Williams F1 engine.
Everybody said the Jaguar C-X75 turbine car we saw at Paris was a dream. No chance whatsoever of it making production. But they hadn’t counted on the ambitions of a resurgent Jaguar.
Jaguar will announce this morning plans to make the Jaguar C-X75 a halo car for the Jaguar range, and are woirking with the Williams F1 team to make that ambition a reality.
Although there is a chance that the turbines we saw in the concept will at some point propel the C-X75 (or whatever it gets called when it arrives) the plan is to use a pair of electric motors – one on each axle – and a high-powered 1.6 litre engine based on the engine Williams are developing for the 2013 F1 season.
The combination of a pair of 250bhp electric motors and a high-boost 1.6 litre lump from Williams F1 with up to 500b hp will, potentially, give the Jaguar C-X75 1000bhp and Veyron-bashing performance.
Look for performance in the sub-6 second to 100mph range and a top speed very north of 200mph. But the C-X75 will alkso be able to drive on just the electric motors for up to 35 miles, making it city-friendly on emissions with less than 100g/km.
Expect to see the Jaguar C-X75 in 2013 at a price above £700,000.

It strikes me that the Jaguar cx75 is exactly what Jaguar should be doing. A real statement.

Why does this need to be a ridiculous car? Why couldn’t the C-X75 be simply a special car to sit at the top of the range and be something to aspire to, instead of a trophy car for the plutocrats an oligarchs of the world?
