Aston Martin V12 Zagato: Zig arrives at the Nurburgring

May 27, 2011 By Cars UK

Aston Martin V12 Zagato at Nurburgring

The AML V12 Zagato arrives at the Nurburgring.

The Aston Martin V12 Zagato has arrived at the Nurburgring. It’s the 2nd V12 Zagato – AML call them Zig and Zag – and WILL go in to production.

We knew that the Aston Martin V12 Zagato – which recently took Vill d’Este by storm – was heading for the Nurburgring to stretch its muscles.

What we didn’t know was that it would turn up in a fetching shade of Kermit green, complete with enormous wing and rear diffuser. But what we did know is that Aston Martin had made two V12 Zagatos – and dubbed them Zig and Zag.

Zag was the car that turned up at Villa d’Este looking for all the world like a road car with a stripped-out interior. A V12 Zagato Superleggera, if you like.

But the car that arrived yesterday at the Nurburgring – and looking every inch the track car and ready to play in the ADAC ACAS H&R-Cup VLN race this weekend before returning to race in the 24-hours of Nurburgring on June 25th – was Zig.

Which is all very interesting, but what everyone wants to know is will Aston Martin build a proper road version of the V12 Zagato? And the answer is – you won’t be shocked to learn – a resounding yes.

Our sources tell us the plan is to put the V12 Zagato in to production as the One-77 ends its production run. We have no idea how many cars AML will be able to shift, but we do know that specialist capacity at CPP is just two cars a week on a single shift. That would mean a year’s worth of production would yield similar numbers to the DB7 Zagato.

The big question though is how much Aston Martin will want for the V12 Zagato. With regular road cars now approaching £200k it’s likely the Zagato will be more. But depending on numbers it could come in around £250k.

Or whatever Aston Martin think they can get away with.

Update: We’ve had a call (from someone who should know) to say the target price for the V12 Zagato is £300-350k. Interesting.

A stunning car, but 350k for a V12 Vantage with a pretty Zagato body does seem hopeful.

For that amount of money you could get a Lexus.
