New Suzuki Swift Sport (2012) revealed – well, one photo.

August 10, 2011 By Cars UK

2012 Suzuki Swift Sport

The first photo of the 2012 Suzuki Swift Sport

Following on from the Concept Suzuki revealed of the 2012 Swift Sport at Geneva, we now have the first photo of the production 2012 Suzuki Swift Sport ahead of  Frankfurt reveal.

At the Geneva Motor Show in the Spring we got a sport concept of the new Suzuki Swift which Suzuki dubbed the Swift S-CONCEPT, even though we all knew it was a great big signpost towards the new Suzuki Swift Sport.

And so it was, with the news last month (thanks to a an email from Suzuki in Russia announcing the 2012 Swift Sport ahead of the game) that the Swift Sport was heading for a production-ready debut and going on sale in 2012.

So it’s not exactly a surprise that Suzuki has sent us a single image of the 2012 Swift Sport to tease us in to a full debut at Frankfurt. Which is, frankly, a great deal more sensible than teaser photos of a car we’ve already seen as a concept.

The wheels of the production Swift Sport are a bit smaller than the S-Concept, the wings less bulbous, the stance less aggressive and the flourishes less dramatic. That’s to be expected. But the 2012 Swift Sport still looks like a decent little warm hatch, even if it is warm rather than hot.

Power will come from a 1.6 litre petrol lump delivering 134bhp and 118lbs/ft of torque and fed to the front wheels through a six-speed manual ‘box.

Suzuki say that the 2012 Swift Sport offers better handling and grip thanks to struts with internal rebound springs and an “…exclusive rear-suspension design.”

The Suzuki Swift is a fun little car and the Swift Sport promises to be even more fun.

More details by Frankfurt on the 2012 Swift Sport are a certainty, including price and on sale dates.

    What a disappointment.

The Concept car was a cracker but the car has been too ‘toned down and after that grand concept entrance I had hoped for a power increase to at least 180 bhp. I mean, they did imply that it was a model to compete with forthcoming Fiesta ST and polo GTI.

    An opportunity missed, surely?

For what it’s worth, we thought Suzuki would show us some fruits of its deal with VW by using the 178bhp Polo GTI lump channelled through a a seven-speed DSG twin-clutch ‘box.

Which would have been much more interesting.

Dteamer exactly what I was thinking! I sin the pictures of the concept car in that electric bumble bee yellow and it was a rite looker! Now they bring this out I had the old one and it was a right little beast just hope this can live up to it with the little but extra power.. they could of least tried getting closer to the 170-190bhp level… hey ho let’s see

Shame Suzuki has tamed this down a bit, but it still looks a good car.
