Infiniti Emerg-E: Geneva 2012

March 6, 2012 By Cars UK

Infiniti Emerg-E

Infiniti Emerg-E arrives at Geneva

The Infiniti Emerg-E has been revealed at Geneva 2012 with 402bhp from a pair of electric motors and a range-extender engine.

The Infiniti Emerg-E, which has been revealed today at the Geneva Motor Show, looks to be a properly promising supercar from Infiniti, and utilises the expensive range-extender technology to produce a stunning-looking car with proper performance potential.

Power for the Emerg-E comes from a pair of electric motors powering the back wheels with a combined output of 402bhp and is capable, say Infiniti, of up to 300 miles between charge thanks to its 1.2 litre 3-pot range extending engine (which comes from Lotus) and up to 30 miles on EV power.

Infiniti are not yet sure if the Emerg-E will go in to production, but if it is to be made Infiniti are going to need some outside help to get the carbon fibre body commercially viable, but a halo supercar with a 4 seconds 0-60mph and a green halo would serve Infiniti well, especially as they expect the Emerg-E to arrive in the £100k range if it goes in to production.

That would put the Emerg-E in the same price bracket as the Tesla Roadster but offer a car with far more usability and much better looks. And using electric motors and a range extender is the perfect way to us the technology which is just to costly in an everyday car.

We find ourselves hugely in favour of the Infiniti Emerg-E.

Its a shame that lotus cant push the evora forward, at least infiniti can buy the technology. It goes to show what a small car company from norfolk can achieve with the technology in their hands, its a pity it all boils down to money or the lack of it. Im not fan of car companies sharing technology, im more for car companies expressing their own work and designs, this is why most cars are clones of each other. peugeot and citroen share and jag and aston martin share techies. the story of infiniti is an interesting one and no doubt it will materialise into production and will be success story, at the expence of lotus,or it will put them on the map, will toyota and infiniti admit its lotus technology and hard graft……

We agree with much of what you say, but Aston Martin doesn’t get access to Jaguar’s tech since Ford sold it. If it did, it wouldn’t be running the same engines and platform it’s been using for a decade!
