The sale of what’s left of Saab to National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) has been delayed over funding and rights to the Saab name.
We all thought, finally, that the end of the Saab saga had come when National Electric Vehicle Sweden was successful in gaining approval from the Saab administrators to acquire what was left of Saab after GM and Spyker failed to agree the sale of Saab as a going concern. The sad fact is that NEVS aren’t planning to carry on the proud tradition of Saab, with its innovative and quirky cars so loved by design professionals, but plan to put the Saab badge on a range of new electric cars.
But even that plan seems to have hit the buffers as funding appears to have been delayed and the completion process – expected to end last week – has been delayed.
It appears that NEVS are having trouble getting the funding in place as there is still much doubt about the rights to the Saab name.
The Saab name can only be used by NEVS if both Scania and Saab AB (the airplane company) give permission. So far, Saab AB has not made its mind up and Scania has said no.
It looks like the Saab saga will continue for a while yet.

Stupid article. An EV SAAB can’t be quirky an innovative?! Also, Scania has no say in the use of the SAAB name, another stupid comment.
Cars UK says
Well, you may believe an EV made in China with a Saab badge could be considered in the same breath as cars from Saab’s history, but we don’t.
As for the Saab name, perhaps that can best be cleared up with a comment from Scania spokesman Hans-Ake Danielsson who said “NEVS can’t get hold of the Saab name until we’ve approved it. That is under discussion right now.”
Stupid article, or stupid comment?
