Ford will reveal the new Mondeo on Thursday at the ‘Go Further’ event in Amsterdam as well as news of major product acceleration.
At that time, especially as the Fusion had already been properly revealed, we assumed the new Mondeo would debut at Geneva in the Spring, but it didn’t. Instead, it will debut at a Ford event in Amsterdam on Thursday ahead of a public debut at the Paris Motor Show later this month.
But even though Ford are rolling out the new Mondeo at their ‘Go Further’ event in Amsterdam this week – as well as promised news of a major product acceleration for Europe – it looks like the new Mondeo may end up being the 2014 Ford Mondeo with Ford not planning to start building the new Mondeo until Q3 2013.
There’s no question the Mondeo is a good car – with a premium badge it could even be thought of as a great car – but sales are not strong with buyers preferring the distinctly more premium-badged BMW 3 Series.
So we wonder, is it time for Ford to change the name on the Mondeo? Ever since they dropped the Cortina badge for the Sierra, which then became the Mondeo, sales have been sliding. That’s not the fault of Ford – or the badge – but is all about buyers’ desire to drive something ‘Premium’.
But the Mondeo name has always been a bit odd; it’s never resonated with buyers and now sounds a bit naff. A new ‘Ford World’ model perhaps calls for a new name? It can’t be Fusion – that’s just a Fiesta on a McDonald’s diet for UK buyers – but something a bit more contemporary – as long as it doesn’t start with ‘i’ – would be nice.

Winds are always popular, like Zephyr or Zonda or Maestro. So what about Ford Fohn. Then they could have the Ford i-Fohn for the EV version. No?

Ford should really do something about the names. The B-Max, C-Max, S-Max are OK, but the rest are just Mediterranean names thought up when only cool people went to the Med.
having said that, they could do worse than revive Capri for a Mondeo or Focus coupe.

Well, the ford mondeo looks fresh and fab, the only criticism though is the grill, looks like a new aston martin front end as for a new name what about ford conquorer or challenger???
