Volkswagen Golf GTD Mk 7 revealed

February 21, 2013 By Cars UK

The 2013 VW Golf GTD has been revealed ahead of a Geneva Motor Show debut with 181bhp, 67.3mpg and 109g/km emissions.

The Golf GTI for diesel addicts has been revealed ahead of a debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show next month, offering impressive performance and economy all wrapped up in the very decent Mk 7 Golf.

The new VW Golf GTD get VW’s new 2.0 litre 4-cylinder diesel which offers an impressive 181bhp and a very decent 280lb/ft of torque, enough to get to 62mph in 7.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 143mph.

The extra power (up 13bhp and 22lb/ft of torque) may mean better performance than the Mk 6 GTD, but it’s not at the price of poorer economy. The new Golf GTD manages to come with official economy figures of 67.3mpg and 109g/km (with the standard 6-speed manual ‘box – less with the optional DSG), a big improvement on the Mk 6 GTD, although you won’t have a prayer of getting that in the real world if you like to scoot along. And why would you buy the GTD if you don’t?

The new Golf GTD gets suitably titivated with a ‘GTI Light’ makeover with new bumpers, wider sills, bigger tailgate spoiler, 17″ alloys, chrome tailpipe, rear diffuser, smoked LED lights and a sportier suspension setting than a regular Golf diesel.

That makeover continues on the inside with sports seats (with ‘GTI Light’ tartan trim), sports steering wheel, stainless steel pedals, Climate, touchscreen infotainment and GTD trim.

The new VW Golf GTD debuts next month at Geneva and goes on sale in the UK in the summer. No price yet.

The GTI is the poorer choice as the GTD does more miles to the gallons and the torque makes it feel as quick most of the time.

Nice. Styling stands out from much of the hatch-tat that’s out there at the moment, and the stats are impressive.

They are (although you’ll never get 67mpg in the real world!) and it does make sense if you do big mileage. Otherwise, the GTI would be better.?
