The Subaru outback has been given a freshen up for 2014 with some cosmetic titivation and the arrival of the 2.0-litre Boxer Diesel with CVT ‘box.

Subaru like to claim that the original Outback – launched in 1996 – launched the current craze for ‘Crossover’ vehicles, and they may have a point.
But with the world getting used to crossovers, Subaru think now’s the time to make the Outback look a little more glossy, so they’ve decided to paint what was plastic cladding for the 2014 model year.
Other exterior titivations include some new colour choices – Deep Sea Blue Pearl and Dark Grey Metallic – with bigger fog lights and gloss black finish to the headlamps and a gunmetal finish for the alloys.
Inside, the Outback gets new, more modern, instruments with an LCD cluster and some new material choices for the dashboard elements with black metallic panels making things seem a bit more modern.
Under the skin there are tweaks to the suspension – self-levelling at the back – which is mounted on separate subframes for reduced vibration and noise and the Outback keeps its 200mm ground clearance and Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system with active torque split on the manual version and centre diff with viscous limited slip diff on the CVT model. The arrival of the CVT ‘box with Subaru’s 2.0-litre Boxer Diesel engine is a first.
The 2.0 litre diesel with CVT ‘box comes in SX trim and gets decent standard equipment levels with 17″ alloys, power mirrors, silver roof rails, glass sunroof, slef-levelling HID headlights, Climate, Cruise, heated seats and auto wipers, and if you want to dig a bit deeper (the Outvack 2.0D SX Lineartronic costs £31,494) you can throw in SatNav and Leather.
The 2014 Subaru Outback goes on sale on 1st November.
