Last weekend we revealed details of the 2015 Volvo XC90 First Edition, a massive spec XC90 created by Volvo to launch the new XC90. And, despite a hefty £68,000 price tag, the entire run of 1,927 First Editions sold out in just 47 hours, with the majority reserved in the first hour.
So what do buyers get with a £68,000 Volvo XC90 First Edition?
In the UK (other markets vary) it means a Volvo XC90 D5 4WD auto with all the toys, plus First Edition badges and uniquely numbered treadplates.
The First Edition also gets an Onyx Black exterior with 21″ 8-spoke inscription alloys, Amber nappa leather upholstery, charcoal leather dash, Linear walnut inlays, 1400W Bowers & Wilkins sound and what Volvo call the “…most comprehensive and technologically sophisticated standard safety package available in the automotive industry”.
Alain Visser, Volvo’s senior marketing VP, said:
We are very pleased, but not really surprised. The huge interest in the XC90 escalated to astronomical levels after the world-première last week.
The first buyers signed up for their favourite number in milliseconds. The rapid response confirms that the XC90 is a truly iconic car model. The First Edition will be a collector’s item in the future.
He may be a bit over the top with his view of the response to the new XC90, but it’s clear buyers see the new XC90 as a very strong offering from Volvo and are willing to fork out serious money to get one in their garage.
Which augers very well for Volvo – and the new XC90’s – future.
