Land Rover has revealed price and specs for the 2016 Range Rover Evoque, which now starts from £30,200 for the entry-level 5-door Ingenium-engined diesel SE.
Land Rover revealed the 2016 Range Rover Evoque ahead of a reveal at the Geneva Motor Show, demonstrating a facelift with a nice raft of updates for a car that is wearing rather well, especially considering its very much ‘Concept’ looks when it launched. When the 2016 MY Evoque was unveiled Land Rover didn’t come up with prices, but did say they’d be in line with the current model. Unsurprisingly, that means they’ve gone up.
Land Rover will doubtless argue that the new trim levels – SE, SE Tech, HSE Dynamic, HSE Dynamic Lux and Autobiography – make a direct comparison impossible, and they’re probably right.
But the starting point is now £30,200 for the Evoque eD4 2WD manual SE – £995 more than the old Evoque Pure cost – and the top of the range Evoque Autobiography will cost you £51,800.
But, as Land Rover point out, the 2016 MY Evoque now has stuff like Lane Departure Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Heated Front Seats, Powerfold Door Mirrors, Auto Lights and Wipers and Auto Climate standard across the range, as well as the option of the new Ingenium engines, so you’re probably getting more for your money, even if you have to spend more in the first place.
The new diesel Ingenium engines look to be a good replacement for the old diesel lumps, and although they are slightly less powerful they are more economical, with the 148bhp eD4 promising 68mpg and even the 9-speed auto TD4 4WD coming with an official 58mpg.
You won’t come close to that in the real world, and most diesel Evoque owners are lucky to get 30mpg with the current model, so it’ll be interesting to see how much more economical the Ingenium-engined Evoques are in the wild.
What you don’t get is anything to rival the German competition in terms of diesel power and economy, which is a real shame.
A BMW X3 or X4 in 35d xDrive spec can get to 6omph in 5 seconds and manage 35mpg in the real world, and it would be good to see the Evoque challenging that. We’d expected that would happen with the Ingenium engines, but no sign of it yet.
But despite its probable thirst, high price and modest performance, the Evoque is still undeniably appealing, and the 2016 MY Evoque even more so.
But just think how much more appealing it would be with proper performance and proper economy?
2016 Range Rover Evoque Price List

Ian Kerr says
We bought the Evoque for its looks and off road capabilities. If I wanted just performance would have gone for a Audi.
Dave Price says
Definitely with you on performance and economy. The Evoque is a great car spoiled by crap performance and crap economy. I can’t see things improving with the new engines.
Cars UK says
The performance isn’t actually crap, just a bit slow – even with the new 180PS Ingenium it takes 9 seconds to 60mph. Our moan is there’s nothing to compare to the X3/X4 (beyond the entry-level 20d) where 30d will do 0-60 in 6 seconds and the 35d in 5s and return much better mpg.
Of course, the X3/X4 isn’t great off-road, but that matters not one dot to 99.9% of buyers who never venture further in to the wild than a boot sale car park.
