The new Hyundai Vision G Concept has been revealed ahead of a debut at Pebble Beach, showcasing Hyundai’s look at a future premium model.
Is the new Hyundai Vision G Concept – revealed today ahead of a debut at Pebble Beach this week – a preview of a future new car from Hyundai? Probably not, but it does give us a very clear idea of where Hyundai is heading.Created under the watchful eye of Peter Schreyer, Hyundai’s design guru, the Vision G is a big, bold four-seater coupe with a long bonnet, high waistline and wheels pushed out to the corners. It’s elegant and appealing, although it could be argued it’s a little derivative.
There’s certainly elements that could have come from Infiniti and Bentley (hardly a bad thing for a Hyundai) and the interior, with its ‘blonde’ theme and minimalist look, seems to have been heavily inspired by Volvo’s latest interiors.
What you see may be a nicely understated premium car, but under the skin there’s nothing quite so interesting; the Vision G Concept sits on the same platform as the latest Hyundai Genesis, complete with Hyundai’s 5.0 litre V8 with around 420bhp.
All that said, the Hyundai Vision G is an appealing – and rather understated – take on ‘premium’, and would be a great counterpart to the Kia GT as Hyundai go ‘premium’ and Kia go ‘upmarket sporty’.
The Hyundai Vision G Concept will be on show at the 2015 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance this weekend.
