Vauxhall revives ‘Scrappage’ with £2k part-ex guarantee
Vauxhall has decided to revive their scrappage scheme to boost new car sales, with a minimum part-exchange value of £2,000 guaranteed for any trade-in.
The scrappage scheme we saw introduced when the recession hit the car industry in 2009 – guaranteeing a £2,000 part exchange value for any used car over 10 years old – did see a lot of old bangers off the road, even if the majority of the cars that replaced them were diesels. Now, Vauxhall has decided to use the ‘Scrappage’ moniker once again to offer a minimum £2k part exchange value on any part exchange – regardless of age – and covering just about every car in the current Vauxhall range (the exclusions are the budget Viva range, Corsa Sting, Sting R and Adam Jam) although, to stop you grabbing a £20 scrapper to turn it in to a £2k discount, you’ll need to have owned the trade-in for 90 days.
Vauxhall say they’re more than happy for customers to get the Scrappage offer in conjunction with any other Vauxhall offers, such as cheap or free insurance, and Vauxhall plan to scrap the traded-in cars using Autogreen.
Leon Caruso, Vauxhall’s Retail Sales Director, said:
Vauxhall’s Scrappage Allowance scheme makes buying a new car even more affordable.
Even customers who think that their current car is only worth a few pounds can now turn it into a £2,000 contribution towards the cost of a new Vauxhall – and that’s over and above any other deals they negotiate with the retailer, including free insurance on ADAM SLAM and Corsa Limited Edition.
If you fancy a new Vauxhall, and have a banger to get rid of, it’s a good way to go. But if you can, negotiate a discount before you let on you’ve got a wreck you want to turn in to £2k.
