The 325bhp Subaru WRX STi 207 with NBR Challenge Package
Subaru has launched a limited edition WRX STi S207 with 325bhp, with just 400 examples being built. But the WRX STI 207 is for Japan only, not the UK.
The bonkers Subaru WRX STi has a proper fan following in the UK, offering great performance (0-62mph in 5.2s) in an affordable (£29,000) package that gives those without pockets deep enough for more exotic transport the opportunity to play to the extreme. So it’s a bit of a surprise that the limited run WRX STi 207 – revealed this week – is being reserved just for Japan, with all 400 examples destined for drivers in the land of the rising sun.
Taking the WRX STi we do get in the UK as its base, the STi 207 gets an uprated version of the 2.0 litre boxer engine with an extra 25bhp (a total of 325bhp) courtesy of a new performance exhaust, new turbo, beefier intake duct and some electronic tweaking. Subaru aren’t saying, but that could get the STi 207 to 62mph in under 5.0 seconds.
Other upgrades include new Recaros, titivated instruments, new front grill, new spoiler and back bumper as well as adjustable Bilsteins at the front, 19″ BBS alloys, Brembo brakes, active torque steering and quicker steering.
Not only that, but the 207 comes in two varieties, the normal and the ‘NBR Challenge Package’, with the NBR (Nurburgring) getting a thumping great carbon wing at the back and, in the photo above, a bright yellow paint job that shouts its intent.
Perhaps if the Subaru fan boys shout loud enough, Subaru UK will deliver the WRX STi 207 (or something similar) for them?
