VW Emissions scam: VW will PAY additional CO2 tax for UK & EU motorists

Volkswagen has announced they will pay any additional tax incurred by UK & EU car owners whose cars have had their economy and emissions misstated by the company.

Last week, Volkswagen admitted that they have scammed the official economy and CO2 tests for 800,000 cars in the UK and Europe, which opens up a whole new can of worms for VW, one that could potentially be far more expensive as so man motorists are taxed based on the official CO2 and economy results.

VW has written to European Finance Ministers asking that VW be charged the additional costs imposed on motorists once the affected cars are re-tested, a sum which could add significantly to the costs VW are going to incur on the back of the Defeat Device scam.

The costs VW will be covering in the UK are not just and increase in VED as the affected cars move chargeable bands, but the costs for company car drivers who pay tax based on the CO2 emissions.

With the original 11 million cars fitted with the defeat device, the additional digging the EPA is doing on software fitted to VW’s 3.0 litre diesel engine in cars like the Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg and now the costs of covering the additional tax charges on 800,000 cars in the UK and EU, the bill for VW is rapidly spiralling out of control.
