2016 MG3 gets new EU6 engine and more options
The 2016 MG3 budget supermini gets an EU6 engine with improved economy and lower emissions, as well as additional personalisation options. Costs from £8,399.
It’s more than two years since the MG3 supermini arrived in the UK and, even though it’s not exactly what you’d think of as an MG, it does add something to the budget supermini marketplace. In fact, with prices starting at £8,399, decent looks, plenty of personalisation options and decent interior space, it was only really let down by a less than impressive engine, not exactly stellar economy and a rather low rent interior.
But MG look to be addressing a couple of the issues with the 2016 MG3, which gets an EU6 version of its 1.5 litre engine which offers stop-start, lower emissions and improved economy. Although whether it’s any nicer to drive remains to be seen.
MG are also increasing personalisation options for the MG3 with new roof colours and a new chrome grill, but none of the 2016 tweaks come at the costs of value.
The MG3 still starts at a modest £8,399 for the 3Time trim, and even the top of the range 3Style Lux – complete with goodies including leather – costs just £10,999. MG dealers are even offering o% finance.
Which, if you’re in the market for a budget supermini, makes the MG3 at least worthy of consideration.
