How do you SLASH vehicle emissions in London? You GNEWT it!

Gnewt Cargo has the world’s largest fleet of electric delivery vehicles

Gnewt Cargo in London has the world’s largest electric commercial fleet of delivery vehicles, and is helping reduce London’s pollution with its ‘Last Mile’ delivery service.

We’ve long banged on about the perfect use for electric vehicles being for deliveries in congested cities, and that’s finally happening in London on a decent scale, thanks in no small part to Gnewt Cargo.

Gnewt (its stand for Green New Transport) has the largest electric fleet of commercial delivery vehicles in the world, and specialises in what they call ‘Last Mile’ delivery service, with their fleet of over 100 electric vehicles delivering 2,634,000 parcels last year alone.

The idea is very simple: other logistic companies deliver their parcels to Gnewt in bulk, and Gnewt then take those packages out individually to the delivery addresses using a fleet that has everything from the Renault Twizy and electric Bullit Bike to the Mercedes E-Vito and Goupil G5.

It means there’s no need for huge diesel delivery trucks trundling round the city, stop starting every five minutes and belching out unpleasant emissions, not only reducing pollution, but easing congestion too.

In the grand scheme of things, Gnewt’s efforts aren’t going to cure London’s pollution problems, but their success shows that getting rid of polluting commercial vehicles in cities is doable and cost effective, with companies like TNT Express and Hermes ParcelNet already using Gnewt’s solution.

We’re not fans of heavy-handed legislation, but perhaps a future ban on non-electric delivery vehicles in London (and other cities), apart from overnight bulk deliveries, would be a sensible solution? Add in a requirement for all taxis (Black Cab, Private Hire and Uber) to be ULEVs, and London’s air pollution problems could be cracked.
