Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T arrives as the poor man’s GT4C

The Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T has been revealed as a new entry-level GTC4, sporting the 3.9 litre V8 engine from the California T with 602bhp and rear-wheel drive.

The Ferrari FF arrived in 2011 as Ferrari’s four-seater ‘Estate’ car, offering a mixture of people and stuff carrying we’d never really seen from Maranello before, coupled with a practical – if rather eccentric – four-wheel drive setup and a hugely appealing V12 under the bonnet.

The FF morphed in to the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso earlier this year after a facelift which saw the V12 get 681bhp, four-wheel steering arrive and cosmetic tweaks to make it even more appealing as a Ferrari ‘All Road’.

But now Ferrari has decided that two of the GTC4’s USPs – its glorious V12 and four-wheel drive – really aren’t all that important after all, so they’re dumping both to create the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T.

The name may only have changed by the addition of a ‘T’ suffix, but what you will get from the GTC4 T is likely to be a car with a very different character from the current GTC4.

Gone is the four-wheel drive, replaced by rear-wheel drive, and saving 80kg in the process, and in comes the 3.9 litre turbo from the California T, here developing 602bhp and 560lb/ft of torque, complete with Variable Boost Management to smooth out the turbo’s involvement.

Ferrari say the 3.9 litre turbo will hustle the GT4C T to 62mph in 3.5 seconds – just a tenth down on the V12 – but they haven’t let on how much they’re going to charge. Although it’s safe to assume it’ll be a chunk less than the V12’s £230,430, otherwise what’s the point?

The new Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T will get its public debut later this month at the Paris Motor Show.
