Volkswagen Arteon teased in sketch
The Volkswagen Arteon will arrive at the Geneva Motor Show in 2017 as an upmarket coupe saloon replacing the VW CC and on sale spring 2017.
Volkswagen is busy reinventing itself after the DieselGate scandal, moving away from diesel engines and heading for the safe, fluffy-bunny ground of electric cars. Well, they hope it’s a safe ground. So we ought to assume, although VW don’t say as much, that the Volkswagen Arteon – teased here as a replacement for the VW CC and debuting at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show – will come with, at the very least, a plug-in hybrid version, if not a full BEV.
What VW do say about the Arteon – a made-up name – is that it sits above the Passat in the VW range and will offer more interior space in its new coupe saloon body, a shape that offers a liftback rather than a boot.
In fact, it looks to us as though VW are aiming at cars like the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe with the Arteon, which we’d have though would have been Audi’s job in the VW hierarchy.
VW is keen to emphasise the Arteon’s design credentials, telling us it has a ‘highly accentuated brand look’, and that its grille and lights demonstrate dominance. So now you know.
This ‘New’ VW seems to have gone a bit poetic.
