The new Peugeot 3008 SUV – revealed earlier in the year – revives memories of Peugeot’s ‘Flaming’ 1980s adverts in a new promo video.
In the 1980s, you needed lots of flames and explosions to sell a new car, and no one did that better than Peugeot. The 1980s advert for the Peugeot 405 (below) managed to mix a field of flaming maize, a Peugeot 405, Berlin’s ‘Take my Breath Away’ and make everyone think driving a 405 through flames was what Tom Cruise might have done in Top Gun.
Now here we are, some 30 years later, and Peugeot has brought back the flames to sell a car once again, but this time the promo tells a story (who had any real idea what was going on in the 405 video?), and instead of advertising a mid-size saloon, it’s a promo for the new Peugeot 3008 SUV.
The promo starts with a lightning strike in a forest, flames spreading, a herd of deer fleeing the advancing flames, and the Peugeot 3008 taking it all in its stride as it negotiates the melee.
As the deer flee across the road the driver smiles benignly and observes, knowing he’s safe and in control in his new Peugeot SUV, complete with i-Cockpit to “Amplify Your Senses”.
And actually, it’s a pretty effective advert and does make the new 3008 SUV look rather appealing. Especially for those occasions when you’re caught in a forest fire and a fleeing herd of deer leap out of the trees at you.
