Well, it looks like they’ve made up their mind on the powerplant, as it’s reported that they are going to use the Supercharged engine from the Cadillac CS-V, which coincidentally just happens to deliver 550bhp from its 620bhp. The very same engine that also powers the Corvette ZR1 and delivers 638bhp there.
But it is likely that Spyker will have a play with GM’s 6.2 litre LSA unit to make it suit the new Spyker SSUV, so anything up to 600bhp is highly likely. That would be enough to propel the Spyker D8 to 60mph in something less than 5 seconds.
Our report in April said that Spyker were intending showing the car at Frankfurt in September – complete with new V8 – but the latest reports say this won’t happen until Geneva early next year as Spyker are unable to hit the show target in September that we previously reported. But we still think there’s a chance that the car will be ready for September but not actually go on sale until after the Geneva Motor Show.
As soon as we get confirmation we’ll let you know.
