Volkswagen I.D. Buzz Electric Camper Van IS going in to production
The Volkswagen I.D. Buzz Electric Camper Van – revealed in January – is going in to production as an electric Camper Van and a Commercial Van. But not until 2022.
Volkswagen has been playing with the idea of bringing the Camper Van back in to production for ever, But now, as VW reinvents itself as a fluffy-bunny, ‘Clean Car’ maker, it’s finally biting the bullet and delivering an electric Camper Van.Previewed by the latest Camper Van Concept – the Volkswagen I.D. Buzz – we saw in January, VW are aiming to deliver their new Camper Van (or Microbus or Kombi or whatever it’s know as in your neck of the woods) by 2022.
But the new Camper won’t just be a lifestyle vehicle, it’ll also be a commercial vehicle, with VW planning to make their EV Camper an EV electric Panel Van too.
What will actually sit under the new EV will probably change in the next five years as battery technology improves, but even what the concept came with would make it pretty practical and appealing
That would mean 4WD from a pair of electric motors, around 370bhp, 0-62mph in around 5.0 seconds and a range of 370 miles. Very un-Camper Van figures.
VW say the new electric Camper Van, when it arrives, will be built in Germany and available throught Europe, the USA and China.
