‘As New’ 1988 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 up for auction. Will this one pass £120k?
Silverstone Auctions are selling a 1988 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 with just 6,000 miles from new. Will this RS500 break the £120,000 mark?
Back in July, a 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 sold for an incredible £122,400 (including fees) at Silverstone Auctions, and the car world was gobsmacked.Even though prices for really good RS500s had been rising for quite some time – and an RS500 sold for £75k in 2016 – it seemed a huge amount of money for a Sierra, even one of just 500 RS500s built.
But now we’re going to find out if that RS500 price was a fluke or a benchmark as another ‘As New’ RS500 goes up for auction with Silverstone next month.
This Cosworth RS500 is a 1988 car, has done just 6,000 miles from new and is said, by RS500 Registrar’s Paul Linfoot, to be the “most original and best available RS500 in the world today.”
Finished in white (just 11 per cent of RS500s came in white), the car was found by Joe Macari back in 2007 lurking in a Ferrari car collection and sold to a private Ford collector, who now clearly thinks he needs to cash-in after the July sale.
Silverstone Auctions have given this RS500 a pre-sale estimate of £100-115k, but they reckon that’s a conservative estimate after July’s sale.
They could be right.
