Bentley Bentayga Plug-in Hybrid to debut at Geneva

The Bentley Bentayga Plug-in Hybrid will debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and a V8 petrol Bentayga is expected to debut later this month.

But a year later the Bentayga – Bentley’s first SUV – clocked up a second ‘first’ for Bentley with the arrival of a new V8 diesel – the first in a Bentley – to extend the Bentayga’s appeal and deliver a lower entry-level price.

Now the Bentayga is about to become the first Bentley model to be available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, with the Bentayga plug-in hybrid debuting at the Geneva Motor Show in March, according to Automotive News.

Bentley hasn’t released any details of the powertrain for the plug-in hybrid in the Bentayga, but it seems almost certain it will be the same setup the Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid offers.

That will mean a 2.9 litre V6 petrol engine mated with a 136bhp electric motor to deliver around 465bhp and allow an official EV range of around 30 miles. And, for now at least, hugely appealing BIK rates.

But before that happens, Bentley will unveil the Bentayga V8, complete with petrol V8 engine and offering a more affordable Bentayga, one which, if the Continental range is anything to go by, could be the pick of the range.
