New Kia Ceed Sportswagon debuts in Geneva
The new Kia Ceed Sportswagon – that’s the Estate – joins the newly revealed Ceed Hatch at the Geneva Motor Show as the new Ceed range grows. On sale in the UK late 2018.
It’s only a couple of weeks since the new Kia Ceed Hatch was revealed – minus the apostrophe in its name – ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show. But Kia are wasting no time extending the new Ceed range, with the Ceed Sportswagon (Estate) revealed this morning before it joins the Hatch on Kia’s stand in Switzerland.
Looking, as you would expect, like a new Ceed Hatch with a small shed on the back, the Ceed Estate gets the same improved looks as the Hatch, with more than a hint of the Optima SW at the back.
That back end has a bigger overhang than the old Ceed SW, hiding a boot which has grown by about 20 per cent and offers a flat floor with the seats down and a lower boot lip for easier loading.
Michael Cole, Kia’s Europe COO, said:
The new Ceed Sportswagon features the same contemporary design and technologies as the Ceed five-door hatchback, but with even greater cargo capacity – it actually offers more storage space than many D-segment tourers. With its efficient new engines, European-tuned ride and handling, and unrivalled quality, the Ceed Sportswagon is a compelling choice in a highly competitive segment.
It’s no surprise Kia has revealed the Ceed Estate at the same time as the Hatch; it currently accounts for around 40 per cent of all Ceed sales, and Kia won’t want to risk that by delaying its launch until the new Ceed Hatch has bedded in.
The new Kia Ceed Sportswagon won’t go on sale in the UK until the autumn.
