New Volvo S60 snapped UNCOVERED
The new Volvo S60 – not due to be revealed until the summer in the US – has been photographed uncovered at Volvo’s Plant in Torslanda, Sweden.
The arrival of a brand new 60 Series of cars from Volvo is well underway, with the new XC60 arriving last year and the new V60 Estate arriving a few weeks ago. Both continue the great work Volvo has done with their 90 Series – XC90, V90 and S90 – offering the same great balance of style, comfort and cool, but in a slightly more wieldy form.
The next new 60 Series car is the new Volvo S60, and although Volvo boss Håkan Samuelsson tweeted a photo of the new S60 winter testing ahead of its debut in the US in the summer, it was, naturally, an S60 complete with swirly camouflage.
But now, thanks to Swedish website Teknikens Värld, we get our first look at the new Volvo S60 completely undisguised with a photo snapped in Volvo’s Plant in Torslanda, Sweden.
Although it only shows the side and rear of the new S60, it does fill in the missing piece of the puzzle as the front end of the new S60 will be just like the new V60.
There are, unsurprisingly, strong similarities between the new S60 and its S90 sibling, with very similar rear lights and side profile, although the rear quarter light moves from in the C-Pillar on the S90 to the door in the S60.
This photo would appear to be a new S60 R-Design with its rear spoiler, but what is perhaps most striking about the back end is that Volvo have decided to fill the big lump of metal between the lights on the boot with the number plate.
That back end is, for us, the weakest part of the S90’s design, but it does look like the simple act of moving the number plate from the bumper to the boot on the new S60 has improved looks no end.
The new Volvo S60 may be due to get its public debut in the summer at Volvo’s Plant in the US, but we can’t see Volvo waiting until then to do a reveal. More when we get it.
