Jaguar E-Type ELECTRIC conversions direct from Jaguar Classic
Jaguar Classic has announced that it is offering electric conversions of the classic E-Type, following a successful on-off electric E-Type last year.
When Jaguar revealed their electric E-Type last year we reckoned, despite the ‘one-off’ tag JLR attached to it, that they wouldn’t be able to resist offering electric conversions to customers in the future, not just of the E-Type but other classic Jag electric conversions too. And they are.Jaguar say the ‘overwhelmingly positive reaction’ to the electric E-Type – no doubt bolstered by its Royal Wedding appearance earlier this year – has convinced them to offer a full electric conversion option for the E-Type.
Jaguar will offer tailor-made E-Types fully restored and converted at their Classic Works facility, and they’ll also take your existing e-Type and convert it for you too. And, because the electric conversion takes the place of the existing engine and gearbox, it’s all fully reversible. Which may take the sting out of the ‘Sacrilege’ shouts as enthusiasts hear this latest snippet of classic car news.
Jaguar say they will release details of the new electric E-Type conversion in due course, but it probably won’t stray too far from the original one-off.
That got a 40kWh battery pack – enough for a 170 mile range – which can be charged at home in about seven hours, modified instruments, touchscreen infotainment, a claimed 300bhp, 5.5 second 0-62mph, and the promise that it drives like an E-Type (a well-sorted E-Type) should.
Tim Hannig, JLR Classic Director, said:
We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to the Jaguar E-type Zero concept. Future-proofing the enjoyment of classic car ownership is a major stepping stone for Jaguar Classic. “E-type Zero showcases the incredible heritage of the E-type, and the expertise and craftsmanship at Classic Works, while demonstrating Jaguar Land Rover’s dedication to creating zero emission vehicles across every part of the business, including Jaguar Classic.
Jaguar are now taking expressions of interest from anyone who want an electric E-Type – or their own E-Type converted – and are happy for you to call them on +44 (0) 203 601 1255 or email them at zero@jaguarlandrover.com.
If you’re lucky, they might give you an idea of how much the electric conversion will cost. At the moment, they’re not saying.
