New Kia Proceed REVEALED – Kia’s budget take take on Mercedes’ CLA Shooting Brake

The Kia Proceed is revealed as a stylish Shooting Brake version of Kia’s new Ceed Hatch and Estate and available only in GT-Line and GT trim.

With a new Kia Ceed and new Kia Ceed Sportswagon already revealed, all that was left for Kia to reveal is the Proceed take on the new Ceed, and here it is – the new Kia Proceed.

Rather than continue with the three-door take on the Ceed the last Proceed was, Kia has decided they wanted a stylish Shooting Brake to tempt buyers in to the designer’s take on a Ceed Estate. And it does look good.

We’re struggling to work out exactly what sort of buyer Kia are aiming for with this new Proceed, but we’re guessing they’re hoping to mop up sales from those with an eye on a Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake but who don’t want to shell out as much as Mercedes are asking.

In terms of size, the Proceed is almost exactly the same length as the Ceed Estate, but it’s a sizeable 43mm lower, with a wheelbase the same as the Estate too. 

The back end is the standout bit for the Proceed – the front is almost pure Ceed, with its tapering roofline and full width LED bar on the tailgate, a tailgate spoiler and a big pair of exhaust pipes.

That roofline does compromise load space a bit, with the Proceed managing space for 594 litres of stuff in the boot (the Estate Ceed manages 625 litres), although the tailgate opening looks a chunk smaller.

Kia are only offering two trim levels for the Proceed in the UK – GT-Line and GT – with the usual suspects powering the stylish Shooting Brake from a 1.0 litre 118bhp three-pot ranging up to a 1.6 litre turbo with 201 bhp reserved for the Proceed GT.

The new Kia Proceed will go on sale in the UK in early 2019 – after a debut at the Paris Motor Show – with pries likely to start above the Ceed Sportswagon, marking the Proceed Shooting Brake out as the Ceed range-topper.
