Cupra Formentor Concept Plug-in Hybrid
The Cupra Formentor Concept is revealed ahead of a debut at the Geneva Motor Show as Cupra signposts their first standalone model.
We still haven’t really got our head around Cupra being a standalone brand rather than a performance badge for SEAT, which hasn’t been helped by the Cupra Ateca being a SEAT model with Cupra badges. But that is set to change as Cupra deliver standalone models, and this, the Cupra Formentor Concept, gives us a very clear idea of what’s in the offing for 2020.
Looked at with a clear head, the Cupra Formentor is really just a coupe SUV take on the SEAT Ateca, with added Cupra titivations and bits nicked from the SEAT Tarraco, with butch bumpers, bigger wheel arches, a lower ride height and that coupe roofline.
Inside, the Cupra Formentor gets a floating dashboard, a digital instrument panel, carbon fibre bucket seats and a 10″ infotainment.
Under the skin, the Formentor gets a plug-in hybrid powertrain delivering an okay 242bhp with a DSG ‘box and four-wheel drive, and claims of an EV range of 30 miles or so. Standard fare, although Cupra aren’t saying exactly what the hybrid powertrain consists of.
The Cupra Formentor Concept Plug-in Hybrid will debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show.
