The Jaecoo 7 once again tops the new car sales chart, with October’s figures showing it beating the Ford Puma and Kia Sportage to the top spot.
The latest new car sales data from SMMT show that new car sales in October rose once again – the 11th month in succession, despite all the economic gloom – with a rise of 5.4% over October 2025 with 152,730 new cars leaving showrooms. The increase in numbers saw Fleet sales rise by 5.4% to 89,985 and a 58.9% market share, Private sales up by 4.1% to 58,229 and Business sales up by 24.5% to 4,516 sales.
Electrified sales accounted for almost 60% of the market, with BEVs taking 32% of the market, PHEVs 15% and HEVs 12%, with Petrol sales falling back to a 37.2% share and diesel at just 3.9%.
It’s becoming something of a norm to see the Chinese Jaecoo 7 at the top of the new car sales charts, having done so in March and again in September. And it repeats the feat for October too, beating the Ford Puma and Volkswagen Golf to take the number one spot.
Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said:
Almost one in three new cars registered in October was electric – great progress in the transition, but one that comes at enormous cost. The industry and government are spending billions to help drivers switch, but that support cannot be sustained indefinitely with the gap to mandated targets set to more than double by 2028, just as a new EV-only tax is introduced.
