It’s being reported that Fiat are definitely producing a convertible 500 Abarth for 2010 and a new Grande Punto Abarth is in the works.
Back in July we reported that Fiat are planning a 500C Abarth. It makes a lot of sense. The 500 has been a big success – deservedly so – for Fiat with models from the most basic 500, through the great little convertible and on up to the Abarth and the ‘Ferrari 500 – the 695 Tributo Ferrari.
But a successful model is always going to spawn whatever variants a car maker can viably muster, so our report in July that we will see an Abarth version of the 500C in Spring 2010 – probably at the Geneva Motor Show – now seem to have been confirmed as ‘jokeforblog’ has published pictures of what seems to be a road-ready Abarth Convertible at Abarth’s facility. Now that will be a bunch of fun – and just in time for next Summer.
It also now seems likely that Fiat are pushing ahead with a new Abarth version of the Punto. Said to feature the Multiar 1.4 litre from the soon to be released MiTo Cloverleaf, the hot Abarth Punto should see 170bhp. The updated Abarth Grande Punto will also get a six-speed DSG ‘box, and there is even the possibility of a 200bhp EsseEsse version.
Should be lots of fun to be had from Fiat and Abarth in 2010 by the looks of it.
