Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV still nearly a YEAR away
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio still nearly a YEAR away, but Alfa are busy telling us just how good it is so we’ll still be full of anticipation.
It’s already a year since Alfa Romeo’s first SUV was revealed as the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, and its reveal – at the Los Angeles Motor Show in 2016 – was in range-topping Quadrifoglio guise. But despite the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio being the first version of Alfa’s Stelvio SUV to appear, it’s going to be very much the last to go on sale. In fact, you won’t be able to get one until summer 2018.
So despite the more prosaic Stelvios going on sale in the UK in the summer, if you want the ‘daddy’ you’re going to have to wait. But Alfa want you to be excited about its, rather tardy, arrival, so they’re busy bigging it up.
First we had the Stelvio Quadrifoglio setting a new lap record at the Nurburgring, and now Alfa are busy telling us just what the Quadrifoglio will offer. Although we already knew pretty much all of what they’re now telling us.
Chief amongst the mouth-watering bits is the 2.9 litre, Ferrari-built, twin turbo V6 under the bonnet delivering 503bhp and 442lb/ft of torque, promising 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds. Which is a whole second quicker than the Porsche Macan Turbo.
The four-wheel drive system features Active Torque Vectoring to get you round bends (hence the Nurburgring record), the rear suspension is a clever multilink setup, there’s an electronically controlled damping system and, say Alfa, the most direct steering ration on the market. Oh, there’s also a carbon ceramic brake option too.
Inside, the Quadrifoglio is clad in leather, Alcantara and carbon fibre, gets a new 8.8″ Alfa Connect Infotainment system with 3D Nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Despite the endless promotion for the Stelvio Quadrifoglio – and it really does sound very promising – Alfa still hasn’t revealed prices. But it’s going to be the wrong side of £60k.
