The Audi A3 2.0 TDI gets a 'Green' makeover
Audi is introducing stop-start and recuperative technology on the A3 2.0 TDI to improve economy and reduce emissions.
If you read here regularly you’ll be only too well aware that every week we report on cars that have cleaned up their act, got more economical and are emitting less CO2. Less cynical souls than us may reasonably conclude that this is because car makers want to ‘save the planet’. But of course, it’s nothing of the sort. It’s about saving money for the car maker by hitting the ever more draconian emissions targets governments around the world are misguidedly setting.
We have big issues with the man-made climate change argument (as would anyone who cared to delve beyond the propaganda) but we have no issues whatsoever with car makers making their cars more efficient and economical, just as long as that doesn’t detract from the performance and enjoyment. Although we would be much happier if the focus was on economy plus NOx and particulate emissions instead of the CO2 garbage.
Still, we have to welcome the moves Audi are making by making their cars more efficient, and the latest to get the ‘Eco Makeover’ is the A3 2.0 litre TDI. Audi is introducing start-stop across the range, together with recuperative systems to re-use energy otherwise lost. The changes give you at minimum an extra 8mpg across the board and cuts CO2 by up to 20g/km. That has an impact not just at the petrol station but also on road tax (VED), and if you’re a company car driver the changes move the A3 2.0 TDI in to the 13% BIK bracket.
So, a good deal all round.
