Audi are teasing a new reveal for the 2013 New York Auto Show which we think in the new A3 saloon. But could it actually be the Q6 instead?
If it is the new Audi A3 saloon (or, as it’s aimed as an entry-level Audi in the US, perhaps we should call it the A3 sedan?) then Audi’s spiritual successor to the Audi 80 should be arriving in showrooms across the US and China – its target marekt – as well as in the UK and Europe by the end of 2013.
Expected to have the same range of engines as the A3 Hatch – although the US will doubtless do without some of the diesel options – the A3 Saloon is going to be a range-topper of the A3 range in Europe, where we’re expecting it to be priced above the A3 hatch as Audi use it to mop up sales from those who now find the A4 too big.
But we’re not completely convinced this is a tease for the A3 saloon. If you look at the rather pointless ‘tease’ photo above (and video below) for Audi’s new model at New York, it does seem to be riding rather high for an A3 saloon.
So we’re wondering if lurking under Audi’s dust sheet is actually a swoopy coupe version of the Q5 – the new Audi Q6?
Audi has been threatening to take on BMW’s X6 (and soon to arrive X4) with a more lifestyle SUV, and the Q6 is expected to break cover very soon.
The new A3 saloon – or the Audi Q6 SUV – will be revealed on 27th March on Audi TV before a debut next week at the New York Show. Or possibly the Shanghai Motor Show.

What will Audi do when they run out of numbers. Will the ever growing market for crossovers of every description mean we’ll end up with the Audi Q6.5 Q3.5 too?

Looked at from the back I can see why you might think its a Q6, but the front view in the video looks too low for an SUV. I think its the A3 saloon with a boot spoiler making the back look high.
