Audi Q2 joins the Q3, Q5 & Q7 as Audi’s ‘Baby’ SUV

The new Audi Q2 has been revealed at the Geneva Motor Show as the new entry point in to Audi’s ‘Q’ range of SUVs, and it gets some new design details.

The new Audi Q2 has been teased a fair bit by Audi, but now it’s finally arrived at the Geneva Motor Show as the new starting point for Audi’s ‘Q’ range of SUVs.

Audi are looking for new, younger buyers with the Q2, with an appealing take on the urban crossover (although they’ll need to be quite affluent – it won’t be cheap) and, although looking very much like a mini take on the Audi ‘Q’ theme, it does have some interesting styling additions.

At the front there’s a revised take on Audi’s grille, bigger headlights than we’ve got used to of late and a ‘Blade’ on the C-Pillar in contrast colour that looks like it’s been plonked there from the R8.

Despite the Q2 moniker – which we assumed would denote Coupe ‘Q’ cars – the Q2 has a Crossover roofline which should make for decent headroom in the back, and a split back seat and luggage capacity of 405 litres means the Q2 will be a practical buy.

Under the skin thwre’s a choice of three TFSI petrol and three TDI diesels, with Audi’s 1.0 litre three-cylinder petrol offering 114bhp, the 1.4 litre four-cylinder sitting below the 187bhp 2,.0 litre TFSI. Diesel options are the 1.6 litre TDI with 114bhp and a pair of 2.0 litre TDI’s with 148bhp or 187bhp.

The Q2 comes with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard on lesser models, but the 2.0 litre models (petrol and diesel) come with an S tronic auto box, with front-wheel drive the default option but quattro 4WD on the 2.0 litre models.

Inside the Q2 is the usual Audi offering, with virtual cockpit, good seats and plenty of technology, including active lane assist, heads-up display, Sat Nav, Park Assist and MMI (some of which will be options, depending on model).

The new Audi Q2 will go on sale at Audi’s UK dealers in the summer, and it seems likely prices will start the wrong side of £20k. After all, Audi consider the Q2 a ‘Premium’ offering – so ‘Premium’ prices are a given.
