Audi are currently running two ‘car sharing’ schemes – one in Stockholm and another in Berlin – and are looking to extend car sharing programmes further.
Audi see big future for ‘Premium’ car sharing
The idea of a car maker promoting car sharing schemes does seem a bit short-sighted on the face of it; if cars are shared by more than one user, surely it will mean lower sale?
But Audi don’t see it like that, and believe it opens up new opportunities with participants ending up car sharing more vehicles.
Audi Unite is a bit like a time share for cars, with three or four sharing a designated car lease and able to book time for the car using A Smartphone App, with the monthly cost apportioned depending on usage.
Audi Select in Berlin runs a different car sharing model, with a single customer having access to a number of vehicles that can be rotated over a twelve month period.
It all means more flexibility for ‘Premium’ cars, with users being able to use an SUV in winter and a cabriolet in the summer (although how Audi will handle that when no one is using the cabriolet in the winter, we’re not sure).
Audi are currently working on two new car sharing pilots for the US (although the programmes are different to either of the current ones) and are looking for ways to extend to other regions.
Maybe car sharing is a way forward for modern motorists?
