BMW has revealed the M4 GTS Concept Coupe, an extreme take on the M4 with less weight and more power. Previews a production M4 GTS for 2016.
Mercedes has just revealed the new C-Class Coupe – and has yet to reveal the C63 AMG Coupe – but BMW is a long way ahead with the 4-Series, and is now adding a new performance version – the BMW M4 GTS.Revealed as a concept at Pebble Beach, the M4 GTS is said to be a showcase for performance-enhancing technologies, but it’s clear it’s very much a look at what we can expect from a production GTS in 2016.
Innovative technology includes water-injection for the twin-turbos, OLED tail lights, carbon fibre reinforced bonnet, adjustable front splitter and a thumping great wing on the boot.
The water injection system is expected to boost power by around 10 per cent thanks to its ability to allow higher boost pressure and improved injector timing. An improved cooling system and revised intercooler will also help, and we could see the M4 GTS delivering anything from 460bhp upwards.
BMW has also taken the not hugely impressive 3.0 CSL Hommage to Pebble Beach, which we first saw at Villa d’Este earlier this year, to add a bit of glitz to its Pebble presentation.
But it’s the M4 GTS, with its extra power, lower weight and Frozen Grey paint job with orange accents that will get the real attention.
