David Brown’s new car is the Speedback Silverstone Edition
The new car from David Brown Automotive, which will debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, is the Speedback Silverstone Edition, a 600bhp ‘hardcore’ version of the Speedback GT.
When we ran a tease from David Brown Automotive of a new car on the way for the Geneva Motor Show, we did think it might be an addition to the current two car range of Speedback GT and Mini Remastered. But it’s not.
Instead, the new ‘DB’ is a limited edition within a limited edition – the Speedback Silverstone Edition.
David Brown are calling the Silverstone Edition a high performance Grand Tourer and say it will get aggressive styling and come with more than 600bhp.
The styling is inspired by 1950s and 1960s racing GT cars (think cars like the Aston Martin DB4 GT), and will be limited to just 10 cars.
The current Speedback GT comes with Jaguar’s 5.0 litre supercharged V8, so we’re assuming David Brown are stretching the same engine to more than 600bhp, up from the 500bhp in the Speedback GT.
David Brown said:
The more detail we reveal, the more excited we are to be able to announce the new Speedback Silverstone Edition in full.
We always had the ambition to deliver an even higher performance derivative of Speedback, so this is the realisation of a core objective for us at David Brown Automotive. Speedback Silverstone Edition is the perfect platform for us to hone classically-inspired performance, as we give a nod to our brand’s Silverstone roots, whilst looking ahead to a future of British handcraftsmanship at our bespoke coachbuilding facility.
With the Speedback GT starting at £600,000, expect the Silverstone Edition to be a chunk more.
