Elton John’s 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona up for sale again
A 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona previously owned by Elton John is up for auction again at Silverstone Auctions September sale. Estimate is £425k to £475k.
Elton John is something of a car nut on the quiet, indulging himself with many of the most desirable cars money can as soon as his star rose in to orbit in the early 1970s.
Many of Elton’s cars have come from Maranello, and this car – a 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona – was one of the first Ferrari’s Reg bought, although he’s had more including a 365 BB, Testarossa and 512 TR.
It’s more than 40 years since Elton sold this Ferrari, since when its been owned by a succession of Ferrari Owners Club members and one owner for more than 16 years. But it was last sold just two years ago.
So seeing this Ferrari back at Silverstone Auctions so soon after it was last sold, you might reasonably assume the owner has decided to cash-in on rising classic car values. But you’d be wrong.
In fact, sadly, the owner of this Ferrari has died, and Silverstone Auctions is selling it on behalf of his family. But despite selling in 2017 for £550k, the estimate now is £425-475k.
If that price guide proves correct, acquiring one of Ferrari’s most glorious creations with a rock solid history and provenance – and a bit of celebrity thrown in – could be a bit of a bargain.
The 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona will cross the block at Silverstone’s auction on Saturday 21stSeptember 2019.
