DK Engineering open day 2012
If you own – or covet – a classic car, especially a Ferrari, then DK Engineering in Chorleywood – just a short drive from Cars UK Towers – is as important an addition to your list of things never to forget as Kylie’s phone number and the location of the missing Bugatti Royale prototype.
Founded by David Cottingham, DK Engineering has restored Ferraris for some of the most famous collectors of Maranello’s creations in the world from ‘celeb’ names like Ralph Lauren, Eric Clapton and Chris Evans to industrialists like Sir Anthony Bamford (JCB) and Sir Anthony Pilkington (Pilkington Glass).
With a client list like that you’d think DK Engineering would be happy to keep the rest of the world out, but business is business so once a year DKE throws open its doors to show off its facilities and showcase its cars (restorations and cars for sale) to whoever wants to come.
This year’s open day at DKE was the wettest of the year but that didn’t stop a couple of hundred car enthusiasts turning out to look at DKE’s cars which included a Ferrari 250 GTO (the Ginger one’s, we think, especially as you can see him lurking in the background with his son, Noah, in the video below), an F40, an F50, a 430 Scuderia, an FF, a 458 Italia and a 512 Testarossa.
It wasn’t just Ferraris – although Ferrari is DK Engineering’s bread and butter – with a Lamborghini Miura, 997 GT3 RS and an Alfa 8C Spyder also in attendance amongst many other hugely desirable cars.
Hopefully DKE’s open day in 2013 will be dry and if it is you could find a lot worse ways to spend an afternoon than wandering round DKE’s wonderful workshop facilities, lusting after their cars and soaking up the atmosphere.
