The Fiat 500X is an SUV based on the same platform as the 500L, and we’ve got a sneak peek of it at a press event in Italy.
Fiat are determined to extend the 500 franchise with an extended range of models, such as the Fiat 500L we saw officially launched earlier today.
Next up will be the Fiat 500X, a crossover come SUV based on the same Punto platform as the new 500L and aimed at the same market place as the MINI Countryman.
We’re expecting the 500X to go on sale at the end of 2013, but Fiat in Italy has given a very quick seak peek at the 500X to motoring journalist attending a Fiat event in Italy, and OmniAuto managed to point their video cameras in the right direction at just the right time.
From what we can see, the 500X manages to be a convincing cross between the 500 and 500L with a raised ride height and lots of bolt-on plastic bits to make it a rufty-tufy urban warrior.
We have no details yet, but it seems reasonable to expect the same engine line-up as the 500L, which means the 900cc TwinAir, 1.4 litre petrol and 1.3 litre diesel.
If Fiat are teasing the 500X already it does seem likely we could see a concept version at the Paris motor Show in September, and maybe even a look at the Jeep variant planned on the same platform.
