Ford Focus ST Diesel gets a bit of a BOOST from Mountune
The Ford Focus ST Diesel – Ford’s warm Focus for those who just must have an oil burner – gets a performance boost with a new upgrade from Mountune. Costs from £350.
The Ford Focus ST Diesel may not be the most impressive Ford to have sported an ‘ST’ badge, but if you’re convinced a diesel war hatch is the way to go, it’s far from a terrible choice.Of course, the diesel ST, even with its diesel torque, isn’t a match for the petrol-engined ST, but it is reasonably quick and does feel warm-hatch to drive. But now it can be made better.
Mountune – a favoured Ford ‘Tuner’ – has turned its attention to the diesel ST and come up with a very cost-effective way to get a bit more out of your diesel Focus without breaking the bank or messing with its core functions.
The catchily named Mountune m460D kit, which consists of an OBDII cable and dongle, is an easy DIY fit and delivers an extra 20bhp and 37lb/ft of torque to the Focus. It doesn’t sound a lot, but it’s enough to cut the 0-62mph to 7.4 seconds from the standard car’s 8.1 seconds.
Mountune say the kit doesn’t interfere with and of the ST’s standard functions – including its DPF programme – and makes the ST both quicker and smoother.
At just £429 for the kit it’s a cheap way to boost your ST’s performance, and if you don’t mind travelling to Mountune HQ in Brentwood they’ll do it for you for just £350 (because Mountune do it without the dongle).
