Interior of the Honda Urban EV
The interior of the Honda Urban EV – Honda’s retro-inspired urban electric car – is revealed for the first time ahead of the Urban EV’s Geneva debut.
At the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Honda Urban EV Concept arrived as a look at where Honda thought the future of electric urban cars was heading. And it was a big hit. With its compact dimensions and looks that reminded us of the original VW Golf, it seemed the perfect size and the perfect look for blatting round the urban landscape free from emissions (well, at the point of use).
Honda told us that the Urban EV (or whatever they call the production model) would arrive in 2019, and a few weeks ago Honda confirmed the Urban EV will go in to production this year, and it will be at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
Honda say the Urban EV at Geneva will be a prototype, but in all the ways that matter it will be the production-ready car, retaining the looks of the concept but in a more practical four-door guise. And now we know the interior will be quite close to the concept too.
Ahead of the debut, Honda has revealed the first interior photo of the Urban EV (above) and it shows a simple dashboard not unlike the concept’s.
Unlike the concept – which had a full width single screen plonked on top of the dash – the production version gets five screens, still stretching the width of the car, with the central three doing instruments, infotainment and secondary information, and the outside two looking like screens instead of door mirrors.
The screens look more integrated than the concept, and look like they’re sitting on top of a wood shelf. It also looks like Honda are sensibly leaving physical buttons for HVAC.
No news yet on what electric powertrain the Urban EV will have, but we’d expect it to offer at least a 40kWh battery and a range of up to 200 miles.
