The Hyundai i30 N could spawn N Versions of the i30 Fastback and i30 Tourer, get more power, and the option of four-wheel drive, as the N brand matures.
The Hyundai i30 N has only just been revealed as Hyundai’s first N Performance brand car, but it looks like there’s much more to come from the i30 N as well as more N models, probably including N SUVs.Top Gear has been bending the ear of Hyundai’s N Performance guru, Albert Biermann, as he was coaxed in to speculating on what is to come from the i30 N in the future.
Biermann confessed that as the N Brand grows there will be more technology on offer, and admitted Hyundai are already testing a four-wheel drive version of the i30 N, although he did say it wasn’t needed with 271bhp on offer.
Top Gear pushed him on when 4WD would be needed, and Biermann smiled at the suggestion another 100bhp would make it necessary. So we’ll take that as a yes.
Biermann was also asked about a paddle shift gearbox, and he confirmed that Hyundai are developing one for the i30 N and that, sooner or later, it will be an option. But it would never replace the manual gearbox.
But Herr Biermann isn’t the only Hyundai boss delivering snippets of information about the future of the i30 N, Thomas Schmid, Hyundai’s Europe COO, has been talking to AOL Cars too.
Schmid says the N Brand is about injecting emotion in to the Hyundai range, adding to the excellent quality and design, and the N Brand achieves that.
Interestingly, he went on to say that an i30 N Fastback – an N take on the new i30 Fastback – and an i30 N Tourer are under consideration, and they will be built if there’s a demand.
We suspect demand for the i30 N Fastback and i30 N Tourer will be significant.
