The Infiniti Q30 (pictured with camouflage) debuts at Frankfurt
The Infiniti Q30 – Infiniti’s first compact car – has been confirmed to debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. Sales will start before the end of 2015.
It’s two years since the Infiniti Q30 Concept debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013, but Infiniti are now ready to reveal the production version of the Q30 (pictured above) at this year’s Frankfurt show. The Q30 is a big deal for Infiniti, the first time they’ve built a compact car and the first time they’ve built a car in the UK (the new Q30 is being built in Sunderland), and the Q30 could elevate Infiniti from being a niche player in the Premium market (certainly in the UK and Europe) to a proper force.
The Q30 is entering a very competitive sector, with the BMW 1 Series and Audi A3 firmly established, not to mention the Mercedes A Class with which the Infiniti shares much of its underpinnings.
That means the same Mercedes MFA platform as the A-C lass and no doubt many of the engine options, so Infiniti should be on the game from the start, although they do seem to be trying to differentiate the Q30 from the A-Class by claiming it is more focused on driver enjoyment.
But the biggest differentiator is going to be the Q30’s looks, looks that appear to be little changed from the concept Q30 and will no doubt polarize opinion. But that’s no bad thing.
No doubt there will be more information on the new Q30 between now and September.
