The Infiniti QX Sport Inspiration Concept has been revealed ahead of its Beijing Motor Show debut, previewing the future of Infiniti’s SUVs.
A week or so ago, Infiniti gave their photographer a single candle and got him to take a snap of the new QX Sport Inspiration Concept, but now they’ve decided to give him proper lighting to deliver the first photos of the new SUV concept ahead of its debut next week at the Beijing Motor Show. We’re not entirely convinced this Infini QX Sport Inspiration Concept actually previews a single forthcoming SUV (although it could be the new QX70), but that it’s meant show the direction Infiniti are heading with their Crossovers. And it looks pretty good.
Taking some design cues from the Q80 Inspiration Concept we saw in 2014, the QX Sport manages to combine smooth surfaces and sharp angles quite convincingly in an SUV/Crossover with a coupe-like roofline, complete with glass panoramic roof.
The headlights are sleek and swooping – and look a bit like they’re winking at you – the grill is bold, the wings aggressive, the door handles and door mirrors have gone on the missing list and the alloys are big and butch. All very ‘concept’.
But, despite having proper concept stuff, the QX Sport looks almost like a production car, and the interior, with its supportive seats, slim dashboard and two tone leather, looks like the interior from a sports saloon, but one you could imagine making production.
Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti Director, said:
The QX Sport Inspiration expresses power and purpose through what we describe as its ‘proportional clarity’, with an elegance that is uniquely Infiniti. The exterior design will appeal to an artistic sensibility. It has a more flowing, natural aesthetic than that evident in traditional premium SUVs.
No doubt we’ll discover more when the QX Sport debuts in Beijing after the weekend.
