Jaguar Land Rover Sales break the 600,000 barrier for the first time
The Jaguar F-Pace continues to drive Jaguar sales as Jaguar Land Rover pass the 600,000 annual sales mark for the first time.
We’ve spent much of the last seven years reporting that Jaguar Land Rover sales are rising inexorably, and here we are – a decade on from when Tata bought Jaguar Land Rover from Ford – and they’ve surpassed the 600,000 sales mark for the first time. The total of 604.009 vehicles shifted in the 2016-17 financial year is a new record, and it’s good to see that the Jaguar bit of JLR is starting to contribute, with Jaguar sales up an impressive 83 per cent on the previous year (Land Rover pretty much stood still).
To be entirely fair to Land Rover, the standstill on sales had much to do with the drop in sales of the Discovery as buyers held back for the new model, although the Range Rover was also off by 4 per cent on the year.
But, as we’ve reported before, the star of the big increase in Jaguar sales is the F-Pace, with sales in 2016-17 hitting 68k, and March 2017 sales of 10,779, figures that eclipse the XE’s 45k/7.5k.
For Land Rover it’s the Discovery Sport which turned in the best figures in March of 19,161, although it was beaten to top spot for the year by the Range Rover Evoque, which sold 110.5k compared to the Disco Sport’s 96k.
Andy Goss, Jaguar LAnd Rover’s Sales Operation boss, said:
The last 12 months have seen the launch of three completely new product lines, and successful growth across many of our existing products. Jaguar sales are still increasing strongly and Jaguar is now Europe’s fastest-growing car brand.
With the new, and very impressive, Range Rover Velar waiting in the wings to add to Land Rover’s sales, and the Jaguar E-Pace – a smaller SUV from Jaguar – arriving before long, things are still looking good for India’s best investment to date.
