Jaguar Heritage Museum to close

It’s less than three years since the Jaguar Heritage Museum was relaunched as a show case for the history of Jaguar cars. With 150 cars in its collection – from the first Jaguar badged car, the 1937 SS, to C-Type, D-Type and the last convertible V12 E-Type – the Jaguar Heritage Museum is a magnet for Jaguar nuts from around the world.

But if you’re a Jaguar nut you’d better get a shake on if you want to see Jaguar’s Heritage cars, as Jaguar has decided to close its museum as it winds down operations at its historic Browns Lane site.

Sadly, it seems Jaguar has no plans to re-open the Museum at another site, but they have said the collection will still be available to the public at events like Goodwood. But that’s not the same.

When the Museum was re-launched in 2009, Jaguar’s then boss, Mike O’Driscoll, said:

It is important that we maintain the link to our heritage and the famous vehicles that have gone before like the C-type and D-type. They are not only part of the history but also part of the sporting pedigree that is Jaguar.

It seems that sentiment is no longer as powerful as it was, as we’re sure Jaguar could find space at Gaydon for a fixed museum if it chose to. We do understand the desire to look forward at Jaguar rather than looking back, but Jaguar’s is a proud history and deserved to be permanently showcased.

Can you imagine the Porsche Museum or Mercedes Museum being closed? No, neither can we.
