Jaguar Land Rover build the millionth car at Halewood – a Range Rover Evoque

Jaguar Land Rover are celebrating building 1,000,000 cars at their Halewood Plant in Liverpool – a Range Rover Evoque.

The Jaguar Land Rover Plant in Halawood was once best know for churning out the now defunct Jaguar X-Type – which it did until the X-Type was pensioned off in 2009 – but more recently its become home to the Land Rover Freelander 2 and the new Range Rover Evoque.

And with sales of the Evoque still powering forward it’s no surprise the the millionth car to come off the production  line at Halewood this week is an Evoque.

In fact, it’s a white Range Rover Evoque Dynamic with a Fuji White paint job, ebony alloys, Firenze Red roof and mirrors and red and black interior which is being donated to Cancer Research UK.

The Range Rover Evoque only went in to production ion 2011 – with a very healthy order book of 18,000 before the first Evoque actually rolled of Halewood’s production line – which meant the waiting list for the Evoque was 12 months long by the end of 2011.

That waiting list motivated JLR to move Halewood to 24 hour working for the first time in its history, and that has seen Evoque production hit of 250,000 since it started being built in Halewood – a quarter of all production since 2001.

Richard Else, Halewood’s Production Manager, said:

We are delighted to be celebrating this huge milestone for Halewood. This unique Evoque looks stunning and is a one-off vehicle that will raise money for Cancer Research UK projects here in the North West.

Over the past few years many of the families of my growing team have been impacted by various forms of cancer. This milestone vehicle, built with pride at Halewood, will help raise much needed funds to help eradicate this dreadful disease.

The unique Evoque is going to be part of a special CRUK auction in 2014, with the funds raised spent on projects in the North West.
