Jaguar Land Rover SHUTTING Plants for a week on no-deal Brexit fears

Jaguar Land Rover will close its plants at Halewood, Castle Bromwich and Solihull for an extra week in April as fears of a no-deal Brexit loom.

Car manufacturers in the UK rely heavily on ‘just-in-time’ deliveries of parts and components from across Europe to keep their factories running and churn out cars. And with the fear of a no-deal Brexit now looming ever closer they’re having to make contingency plans.

BMW has already announced it will be closing its MINI Plant in Oxford in April, and Honda are having a shutdown too. Now it’s the turn of Jaguar Land Rover.

Already beleaguered by falling sales and diesel doubts, JLR has cut 4,500 jobs and cut production to try and cope, and now it’s announced it will close its plants in Halewood, Solihull and Castle Bromwich for an extra week in April.

The Plants will now be shut from April 8-12 in addition to a one week maintenance shutdown planned for April 15-23 as JLR warns of potential Brexit disruption.

It’s no surprise to see JLR making plans for a shutdown over no deal Brexit fears, having warned for more than a year that a no deal Brexit could cost them dearly, as much as £1.2 billion a year in lost profits, and put at risk future investment plans.

Expect to see more JLR production moving away from the UK – even if there is a Brexit deal – following on from the move to Slovakia for Discovery production (and the new Defender going to Slovakia too).
